Shichi-Go-San, Shrine Visit
Shichi-Go-San, Shrine Visit
Shichi-Go-San is said to have originated in the Muromachi period. The Shichi-Go-San celebration is meant to express gratitude for the safe growth of the child, and to wish for the future and longevity of the child as it marks the transition from infant to boy/girlhood. The official attire for a baby's first visit to the shrine is said to be "festive kimono (maternity clothes)". The mother usually wears a "visiting kimono(Houmongi)" and the grandmother wears a "visiting kimono(Houmongi)" or "colored tomeisode(Iro Tomesode)".
